Keeping
Gerry
Lockran's
blues
legacy
alive

After his stroke, Gerry lost the use of his
left hand and couldn't play the guitar.

During the last years of his life, he took up photography,
painting and writing poetry.  Here are two of his poems:

I've been nearly everywhere!
Played travelling guitar for twenty years
Did Florida and San Francisco
Copenhagen and San Diego
Did New York, Denver and Louisville
Roma and Paris Centre Ville.
I made 'em smile and gave 'em fun
Solo playing - just by one!
I worked with big and mighty stars
At Madison Square and Berlin Bars
Played Las Vegas and Miami
But now I've packed it in you see
But still love good music though
I don't want to tour any more
I paid my dues for twenty years
Brought 'em smiles and sometimes tears.

This poem has since been set to music
by Gerry's eldest son, Jason.

'Oh Him! - He had a STROKE you know'
Used to be all get up and go.
As a musician, just like a magician
But he's retired now
He can just about get up the stair
Can't walk far without a wheelchair.
Someday, so the experts say
He may get his left hand back again.
Till then he sits and takes the strain.
He makes his lists and makes his plans
But inside he knows they'll never happen.
Once he could really entertain.
So don't you laugh if you see him pass
He had a stroke - alas!
